Divine Spell Casting
Divine magic and regular magic do not mix.  If the character has regular magic he cannot have divine magic and if he has divine magic he cannot use regular magic.

Blessings

The Divine spell areas and the characters ability to cast those spells

Priests pray to their god for a needed blessing at the time of casting.  Different gods have different areas of expertise and therefore certain types of blessing.  For this case each god has spheres of magic.  Some blessings can be justified under the same sphere depending on how it is defined.  When a blessing is cast the priest prays for an effect and the god decides what level of effect is required to accomplish the prayer.

Praying for Blessings

Whenever a priest becomes Blessed by a god they are actually Blessed with the divine spell casting ability  As such they manipulate a pool of power that the god have made available to them by using their own lifeforce to suppliment the power pool.  As such there are two primary attributes to a priest.  The attribute required by the god as primary and Constitution.  Each time a priest uses a Blessing they must make a Divine Blessing skill roll DC 12 + 3/Blessing level.   If they fail the roll the effect does not occur.  Each time a character succeeds at a spell roll Constitution + Blessing with the same DC as the spell success roll .  The caster cannot go over his maximum allowable spell due to attribute or level.  If the priest fails that roll subtract 2 from the character's strength, dexterity and constitution.  Physical attributes recover at a rate of 1/day/attribute.  If any of the physical attributes goes to 0 the character passes out and will remain their for enough days for them to recover above 0 in all attributes.  Also roll a physical save to avoid permanent disability -2 for each negative below 0 (each attribute).  A priest uses his normal unmodified constitution to do future rolls.
Mana level has no effect on a priest. However, the priest's ability to follow the code of their religion is.  The precepts for each religion can be found in the section on each god (See text on religion).  Bonuses/Minuses can stack but don't always do so.

Chart 1: This defines the modifiers applied to each spell level.  The specific number is above but this chart makes it a little easier.  The No roll after is the level at which even a one would succeed so there is no need to roll at all.  As a general rule.  No roll is required if the base roll is more than the DC.  This means that a cleiric with a 15 primary attribute who spends the maximum allowable points on spell casting can cast cantrips automatically at 8th, 1st level spells at 11th, 2nd level spells at 15th, 3rd level spells at 17th, 4th level spells at 20th.  However, the spells have been pretty unlikely to fail for quite a while.

Blessing Level DC No Roll required after  Blessing Level Modifier to DC No Roll required after
Cantrip 12 Base roll = 10 5th 22 Base roll = 24
1st 14 Base roll = 12 6th 24 Base roll = 27
2nd 16 Base roll = 15 7th 26 Base roll = 30
3rd 18 Base roll = 18 8th 28 Base roll = 33
4th 20 Base roll = 21 9th 30 Base roll = 36

Note: A character may still take 10 on many rolls.  These no roll required after means even in combat
Chart 2: Priestly actions and their effect on divine blessing ability

Blessing Modifier Priests action
no blessings until atonement Have done something completely counter to the belief (tortured someone as a priest of Jalara)
-5 to roll Have not followed the precepts recently (become insanely jealous for someones favor as a priest of Jalara)
-3 to roll Major action against the precepts but not abborant to the god otherwise faithful (hurt someone in anger)
-1 to roll Missing one of the necessary rituals (usually daily, weekly, monthly and yearly rituals).  The minus continues and  until the priest can repeat the ritual.
Base Does all rituals, is true to the precepts
+1 Performs one of the rituals for others to assist them in their faith.
+3 Going beyond the call to perform and serve their god (most priests who work in the temple of Jalara in Rivers'End are considered to be under this bonus while they work).  A priest beginning a new temple might recieve this bonus during a time of need.
+5 On a special mission for the god risking their life and leaving behind all they love to complete it.
